Greater Anglia Is Back In Public Hands
This past weekend marked a proud moment for our region: Greater Anglia became the latest network to be nationalised and brought into public ownership. This was a landmark Labour manifesto commitment that I was proud to stand on, and another promise delivered.
This nationalisation stands to further improve and build on what has already been named the best train provider in the UK. We are extremely lucky to have the most reliable operator in the country on our doorstep, which has a performance satisfaction score of 97%, with 84% of its trains arriving on time.
Greater Anglia will continue to deliver its renowned high-quality services, helping to connect communities, boost growth, and put passengers at the heart of our rail network. The network will eventually become part of Great British Railways, which the government plans to set up in the coming years.
By nationalising all the current rail franchises, an estimated £150m will be saved per year in fees paid to private sector operators.
Nationalisation represents the core values of putting public interest over profit. I am proud to represent a Labour government that delivers on that.
