About Peter

Peter was an NHS surgeon in East Anglia for forty years, bringing decades of frontline experience in healthcare to his work in Parliament. Peter retired from medicine to focus on his parliamentary commitments. He is a trustee and former chair of the Norfolk Deaf Association.

First elected as MP for Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket in July 2024, Peter’s political passions reflect his professional experience: improving health outcomes, dentistry services, social care provision and palliative care, and cutting NHS waiting times. He is also passionate about representing the needs of rural communities and ensuring that people across the constituency have access to the services and opportunities they need. His main areas of interest also include rural affairs, transport and equality.

Peter is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Deafness and sits on the Home Affairs Select Committee, where he brings his professional and constituency experience to his work in Parliament.

Peter is a committed defender of the BBC and, in addition to his parliamentary duties, likes to keep fit.
