About Peter

Peter was an NHS surgeon in East Anglia for forty years, bringing decades of frontline experience in healthcare to his work in Parliament. He retired from medicine to focus on his parliamentary commitments and is a trustee and former chair of the Norfolk Deaf Association.

First elected as MP for Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket in July 2024, Peter’s political priorities reflect both his professional experience and the needs of the communities he represents. He is particularly focused on improving health outcomes, dentistry services, social care and palliative care, cutting NHS waiting times, and ensuring people in rural communities have access to the services and opportunities they need. His other interests include rural affairs, transport, equality and protecting our rivers and chalk streams.

Peter sits on the Home Affairs Select Committee and plays an active role in a number of cross-party parliamentary groups. He is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Deafness, Co-Chair of the APPG on British Jews, and an Officer of the APPGs on Healthcare Workers and Emergency Care. He is also involved in parliamentary work on chalk streams and a range of other health and constituency issues.

Peter is a committed defender of the BBC and, in addition to his parliamentary duties, likes to keep fit.
