Latest Newsletter - Out Now!
As summer begins, I’m proud to share the June edition of my monthly newsletter – a snapshot of the work I’ve been doing across Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, in Parliament and beyond.
This month, I took a stand on an issue that has stirred deep public debate – assisted dying. After a long NHS career caring for patients at the end of life, I voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. My decision wasn’t taken lightly. I believe that those facing a terminal illness should have the right to choose a dignified end, while being fully protected by strong safeguards. I know many of you wrote to me on this issue, and I want to thank you for your heartfelt messages and views – each one helped shape my thinking.
Closer to home, I was delighted to formally open the first-ever MP’s office in Stowmarket – a historic moment for our town and our campaign. This new, accessible space reflects my commitment to being visible and available to constituents, wherever they live in our community. Since last July, we’ve dealt with thousands of cases, and I want everyone to know that help is here if you need it.
In Parliament, I’ve continued to champion one of the UK’s most powerful tools for truth: the BBC World Service. In a world increasingly shaped by misinformation and authoritarian influence, the World Service is more than just radio – it’s a lifeline for millions. I brought together cross-party MPs, security experts, and journalists to make the case for saving this vital institution from further cuts, and I was pleased to secure the Prime Minister’s agreement on its global importance.
And there’s great local news too. After persistent efforts, Marham Park residents will soon welcome a new Co-op, and I’ve supported a successful bid to improve local bus services — connecting more residents to our town centre and easing rural isolation.
Finally, I want to offer heartfelt congratulations to the five local residents honoured in the King’s Birthday Honours. From NHS leadership to community activism, they embody the spirit of Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket, and I couldn’t be prouder to represent them.
As always, my office is here to support you. Whether you have a casework concern or want to share your views, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
