May Brings a Wave of Positive Results
This week we’ve seen a raft of positive figures, thanks to decisions taken by this Labour government.
UK GDP is estimated to have increased by 0.6% in Q1 of 2026, following annual growth of 1.4% in 2025. On Monday this week, the IMF upgraded the UK’s growth forecast for 2026 and advised the government to maintain its current fiscal strategy, backing Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ approach to deficit reduction and growth-friendly spending.
Inflation fell by more than expected to 2.8% in April, despite the war in the Middle East. The ONS says that drop is directly linked to this government’s action to reduce energy bills – with the price cap dropping by £117.
Meanwhile, net migration has fallen by 82% over the past three years. Last year’s net migration was 171,000 – down from a high of 944,000 under the Tory open borders experiment.
We also have 12,000 fewer people in asylum hotels since last year, and since coming to power we have removed 67,000 people with no right to be here. We are restoring order and control of our borders.
And finally, NHS waiting lists are at their lowest for three and a half years.
Last week we hit our goal to ensure that 65% of patients were treated within 18 weeks. The figure was below 59% when Labour came to power.
Due to the work of this Labour government, figures like these are becoming a reality, rather than just targets. We are beginning to see the positive changes that come from our commitments - all contributing to a stronger, fairer Britain.
