Taking Action this World AIDS Day

1st December was World AIDS Day, and the Government marked the day by announcing a new HIV Action Plan – investing in testing, prevention and tackling stigma. Thousands of people are set to benefit from this scheme, with £170 million of investment backing it. This is the first ever national programme to re-engage people back into life-saving HIV care and treatment. The plan tackles the stigma that remains a barrier for too many people – fear of judgement and discrimination means some people avoid getting tested, leaving infections undiagnosed and untreated.

HIV is now entirely manageable – the right treatment means that people can live long, healthy lives and cannot pass the virus on to others. With this focus on early diagnosis and support, ending new HIV transmissions by 2030 is firmly within reach.
