New and Improved Bus Routes
Exciting changes are coming to Stowmarket’s bus network, thanks to new funding and community input. Here’s what’s on the way:
Dan’s Coach Travel – DB1 Route
o New Saturday service added between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds
o Designed to improve weekend connectivity for commuters and shoppers
Mid Suffolk Taxi Bus
o Two new Stowmarket Circular routes via Thurston and Bacton
o Launch date: 1 November 2025
o Five more routes planned
ü Rural Connect Community Bus
o Covers Stowmarket and surrounding villages
o Fully electric fleet with door-to-door booking
o Fares range from £3 to £12 depending on distance
o Strategic stops at rail stations, colleges, and employment hubs
This is all thanks to a £2.8 million from the Local Authority Bus Grant, made possible by the Labour Government. These routes were shaped by public feedback through Suffolk County Council’s ‘scheme on a page’ initiative. Local councils, operators, and residents all contributed to identifying gaps and opportunities.
This bold upgrade, with new routes, electric fleets, and weekend services connecting more communities than ever, only serves to make daily life easier for residents: boosting access to jobs, schools, and services, and cutting down isolation with more reliable, inclusive transport.
