Labour’s New Clean Energy Drive

I am backing new measures to ramp up this government’s clean energy mission and protect family budgets from shocks on the global stage.

  • Plans will include helping renters and flat owners to install cleaner and cheaper technology, like EV chargers and heat pumps

  • Massive expansion of solar and wind on public buildings will also help cut bills

  • Labour’s wider clean energy mission will safeguard people’s pockets from global shocks, such as the Iran conflict

Today, the Government have unveiled a number of new policies as Labour goes further and faster to deliver the clean, homegrown energy it promised in its manifesto.

As well as delivering a cleaner future for our country, the plans will ensure long term energy security for Britain and help cut the cost of living for working people – safeguarding them from the consequences of conflicts abroad, such as the war in Iran.

The new measures will include making it easier for renters, those who live in flats or those without a drive to install EV chargers, solar panels and heat pumps, giving more people the opportunity to take advantage of cheaper, cleaner energy.

The plans will also see a massive expansion of solar panels and wind turbines across the public estate, including on brownfield and industrial sites or railways, as well as a huge overhaul of planning to speed up connecting new projects to the grid and upgrading existing renewables.

This government’s main focus is on tackling the cost of living and just this month a number of new measures came into force to support families, including:

  • An average saving of £117 on energy bills

  • A rise in both the National Minimum and Living Wage – boosting the pay packets of nearly 3 million workers

  • A £575 boost for millions of pensioners

  • The scrapping of the two-child limit, lifting half a million children out of poverty

And while there is much more to do, I will continue to fight the corner of families in Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
