Wildfire at Dunwich Heath

Today I joined Times Radio to discuss the devastating wildfire at Dunwich Heath and the impact that prolonged heat and drought are having across Suffolk.

My thoughts remain with everyone affected by the fire, particularly those who have had to leave their homes or holiday accommodation, and I want to thank our firefighters, emergency services and all those working tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

The fire is a stark reminder of the challenges our county is facing. From the dry heathland at Dunwich to the disappearing water in Bury St Edmunds' water meadows, we are seeing first-hand the effects of hotter, drier summers.

We must ensure our emergency services have the resources they need to respond to these increasingly frequent extreme weather events, while continuing to tackle their root causes by reducing emissions and building a more resilient future.
