A143 Closure at Stanton

Today, I have written to Suffolk Highways following the urgent closure of the A143 at Stanton after the road surface deteriorated during the recent hot weather.

The closure is causing major disruption for residents, commuters and local businesses, with a lengthy diversion now in place on one of west Suffolk’s key routes.

Local people have been raising concerns about the condition of this road for some time, and I share their frustration that it has been allowed to deteriorate to the point where an urgent full closure and a 62-mile diversion are now necessary.

In my letter, a copy of which can be found here, I have asked Suffolk Highways to explain how this situation was allowed to develop, what immediate action is being taken to complete repairs as quickly as possible, and what steps will now be taken to prevent further heat-related damage in future.

I will continue to press for answers and keep residents updated.
