Cancer Research UK’s Parliament Day

I was pleased to join Cancer Research UK in Parliament for the launch of its Unlock Cancer Breakthroughs campaign.

As a former NHS doctor, I know how vital research is to improving outcomes for patients. Breakthroughs in cancer research are transforming how we prevent, detect and treat cancer, offering real hope to people living with cancer now and in the future.

But progress cannot be taken for granted. Cancer Research UK has highlighted a number of barriers that are slowing research down, including delays to clinical trials, difficulties attracting international research talent, and uncertainty over long-term investment.

Cancer remains the leading cause of death in the UK, and the number of diagnoses is projected to continue rising in the years ahead. That makes it all the more important that we back the scientists, clinicians and researchers working to deliver the next generation of treatments and innovations.

I was glad to support Cancer Research UK’s campaign in Parliament and will continue to back efforts to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of life-saving cancer research.
